On each graph we show the quartiles, that is the lower quartile, the median and the upper quartile as well as the average of all the relevant, comparable data. We also include your own data so you can see how you stand up against the market.

Finally before you look at the results we work hard to ensure that the data is clean. We get the data audited. In some cases an input may look odd to us. In such a case we may contact you by email to verify if the data is correct - sometimes it is a simple mistake, which corrected, allows you to have a revised pdf of much more use.

Base pay is the non variable part of remuenraiton per annum.

Total compensation

Total compensation is base pay plus the bonus you received. So if base pay was £10,000 and you received a bonus last year of £1,000, then your total compensation is £11,000. If you did not receive a bonus last year and, as a result, entered "0" in the form for "bonus received", then your total compensation will show as £10,000.

Carrer progression

An important aspect of balancing the pay you receive is the level of career progression that you have. So if you have a very well paid job now but there is little progression and you are not building up your skills, you are trading money now for money in the future. So you may be paid less now but have a job that is giving you great skills so that you will be paid much more in the future.

Organisational integrity and honesty

Very topical at the moment, with all the discussion about the credit crunch and "whistle blowing", is the integrity and honesty of an organisation. In the past an individual exposing inappropriate corporate behaviour may well have jeopardised their career prospects. Bullying of staff, treatment of suppliers, covering up of mistakes, all reflect integrity and honesty.
